Recruitment consultants from Hays Construction, the leading recruiting experts in qualified, professional and skilled people, in Newcastle, will be swapping the Hays offices to work for a local construction company for a day. The voluntary job-swap is taking place to raise money for the Lighthouse Club charity. On the 4th December one of the Hays’ Newcastle consultants, Becca Smith, traded in her suit for a hard hat as she spent the day labouring for Dunelm Property Services.
The Suits on Site campaign commenced in November and hopes to raise over £3000 for the charity. The Lighthouse Club, which helps to support victims of workplace accidents and their families, in the construction industry, will receive the equivalent to a professional’s daily wages from each employer involved in the initiative.
Mark Flannery, Manager at Hays Construction, comments: ‘‘We are proud to support such a fantastic charity which assists individuals or families within the construction industry who fall upon hard times. Suits on Site helps give consultants first-hand experience of what is required when placing people in jobs out on site. The consultants really enjoy learning more about the work that is undertaken and getting their hands dirty for a great cause.’’
Heather Newell, Customer Services Director at Dunelm Property Services said: “We were delighted to welcome Becca for the day – it’s a great credit to her that she mucked in with the team. I’m sure the experience will have been valuable in lots of ways – construction sites are specialist places these days and it’s important to be in tune with ‘how’ and ‘why’ and what matters to people, not just the technical skills we recruit for. Safe to say – we’ll be looking forward to her return visit!”
